Thank God for our 233 years of freedom!

flagMy grandfather, an amazing hero in the 10th Mountain Division, served in the Po Valley in Italy. For his service there, he received a Purple Heart for defending his country and my freedom; he never spoke about it. My father-in-law, David Hoffman bravely served in Southeast Asia and continues to be very active in Veteran’s groups. This weekend I am humbly grateful for my grandfather, other family members and patriots who served and sacrificed to protect us.

Our country continues its struggle to protect individual liberty and freedom. Our Government often takes from us those exact rights in the name of protecting us. There will always be a perception that our government is only here to help us. Yet, that help comes with a price. The price of this false perception is that we sacrifice individual accomplishment and success. Our government should be confined to the role given to it by our Founding Fathers which is to maintain ordered liberty.

Do we simply accept the government’s role as a protector and provider of all things? If we do, then we are indeed deserving of a government master. How is that freedom? The idea of being free fights against slavery to government. Let us resist the shackles and wear with pride the beautiful freedoms secured for us by the brave men and women who sacrificed, not for our government, but for their fellow countrymen! Praise God for their willingness to serve and pay the ultimate sacrifice.

Please take a moment today to say thanks to a soldier who served or is now serving. They deserve to know how grateful our nation is for their sacrifice.
