Veteran’s Day 2009

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

iStock_000009540937XSmall Again we are involved in a war that no one wants and that is hard to justify for many Americans. November 11th is Veterans’ Day, the day we honor our soldiers for their service. The holiday, originally established to recognize the end of World War I, is now a celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism and willingness to sacrifice for the common good. Today, our political parties fight between themselves about who is responsible for the terrible shape our country is in while our soldiers fight on. Today is not a day to debate the role of America in the world. Today is a day to thank God for our soldiers and their efforts to keep us safe.

We are blessed to have the finest young men and women serving in our defense. They are the most highly educated, motivated and committed solders on the planet. They are the only military in the history of the world that does not go to conquer, but go to bring freedom and liberty to those who have not known it. Our military service members, contrary to many who degrade them, have sacrificed and sometimes died so that we can be free and others can have the first tastes of freedom. When our soldiers leave a place, they leave asking for only the land to bury their dead.

I have been to Arlington several times and to numerous military cemeteries around the world, including the cemetery for our soldiers who built the bridge over the River Quai. There has been no more moving a moment for me than being able to personally visualize and comprehend the sacrifice that these men made. Recently the French Prime minister gave a speech to Congress in which he said, “I am a free French man because American soldiers died for me.” We should all be so willing to express our undying gratitude for our soldiers’ service.

Operation Care Package Michigan is a dedicated group of volunteers/ Camo Angels who work tirelessly to send a few small things to our troops. They are in need of supplies to help ** Sock It To Our Troops** for the Holidays and all year long.  You can help in these efforts by contacting JJ Fulgenzi via email at jjfugi@chartermi.net or through their website at www.ocpmi.com . The items needed are small but the gifts are tangible proof that we appreciate the sacrifice of our military men and women.  It is a very simple way to express our undying gratitude.  Thank you for your support!!

Thanks

Military Service Should be Honored

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Michigan needs to support the families that serve our nation. Their service to us all is something that should be honored. There should be more support given to the families who are serving our country. We hand out entitlement after entitlement to those who have not contributed to our society, while those who are serving are often neglected.
