Free Farming

I am opposed to the National Animal Identification System (NAIS) program. It is a serious infringement on our liberty and freedom. The program is designed and set up to eliminate small farmers from the agriculture business. It is an effort by large agribusiness to decrease the number of competitors in their industry. Farming is a huge part of the Michigan economy and needs to be free to develop and change. We have overregulated our farming families. By this overregulation, we have kept farmers in near poverty. We need to free them to develop products and services that serve the people of our state and country. The national food system of our country has seen a shift to importing much of the product consumed in this country. (This has been a source of much contaminated food). Foreign agriculture competitors are not saddled with the same regulatory burdens and this has put our farmers at a disadvantage. We need to reduce the regulatory hurdles that exist (For instance, milk safely produced should be able to be sold from the farm).
